Their Story

In December 2023, the Hanouna children (4 siblings and 1 cousin) were severely injured in an explosion that killed their parents and sister, affecting several other relatives. The children were initially difficult to locate. After a week of searching, they were found but fled the hospital due to attacks. They were located again days later.

Following their discharge from the hospital, they received supported with food aid and wound care via a nurse that resided with the family due to the presence of necrotic tissue in the injuries sustained. The children were then transferred from northern to southern Gaza, though the first ambulance was attacked, resulting in tragic crew casualties. The second transfer was a success and the children received urgent care at IMC hospital.

While their evacuation application was pending, Relief Across Borders sourced passports for the companions in Ramallah, West Bank.

The children were successfully evacuated to the UAE via the Rafah Crossing. They are now receiving ongoing treatment for their injuries, including prosthetics.

Relief Across Borders visit the family in the UAE and the children are recovering well and thriving.
