Meet Jihad
Providing ongoing support to Jihad and his Grandmother in Jordan including in-person visits with physical and financial aid.
Jihad’s Story
Jihad, a young baby from Gaza, was diagnosed with a mass on his heart, suspected to be cancer. His condition was critical, and urgent medical intervention was needed. However, due to the ongoing blockade and the collapse of Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure, the only viable option was to evacuate him for treatment outside of Gaza.
Relief Across Borders was made aware of Jihad's case after he had already been evacuated to Jordan, following a complicated situation. Although Jihad was meant to be accompanied by his mother, she was denied security clearance, leaving Jihad to travel with his grandmother, who also required medical treatment. This added another layer of difficulty to an already challenging situation.
Once in Jordan, Relief Across Borders stepped in to provide critical support. Our team delivered both physical and cash aid to Jihad and his grandmother to assist with their immediate needs, ensuring that they had the resources necessary to focus on their treatment and recovery without further stress.
Jihad
Age: 10 months old
Location: Jordan
Diagnosis: Large cardiac mass located on the right side of the mediastinum, causing displacement and compression of surrounding structures. The mass has led to thickening of the adjacent walls and was identified following a history of marked pericardial effusion drainage. Imaging findings are suggestive of a pericardial mass, likely a teratoma, requiring further biopsy and histopathological evaluation. Urgent cardiothoracic input required due to mass-related compression effects and further evaluation is necessary for definitive diagnosis and intervention. Jihad may need surgical resection or other oncological treatment based on biopsy results.
