Providing ongoing support to the family in Cairo, Egypt including in-person visits with physical and financial aid.
Mohamed’s Story
Mohamed, a 3-year-old boy from Gaza, was diagnosed with leukaemia. His condition required immediate treatment that was unavailable in Gaza due to the ongoing healthcare crisis and blockade. Mohamed’s family made the difficult decision to evacuate him to Cairo, where he could receive the necessary care.
Relief Across Borders became aware of Mohamed’s situation after his evacuation to Cairo. Upon learning of their situation, we immediately recognised the urgent need for support. Mohamed was accompanied by his mother and siblings, and they were facing immense challenges, both emotionally and financially, as they navigated the complexities of medical treatment in a foreign country.
Our team mobilised to provide urgent assistance, to enable us to deliver both physical aid and financial support to help ease the burdens they are facing. This includes providing food and clothing, and offering cash assistance to ensure the family can focus on Mohamed’s recovery without worrying about their basic needs.
We remain committed to providing assistance to Mohamed and his family, ensuring they have access to the resources they need during this difficult journey.

Diagnosis: Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (B-ALL) with an initial blast count of 100,000 and prior testicular involvement. Peripheral blood immunophenotyping revealed 61% B-lymphoblasts. Chemotherapy began in February 2024. During his treatment, he developed a serious bloodstream infection (CRE bacteremia), which required strong IV antibiotics. This infection cleared by mid-March 2024. Scans of his brain, chest, and testicles showed no concerning findings and a bone marrow test on Day 15 of treatment showed that his cancer cells had significantly reduced to less than 0.01%, a good sign of response to treatment. Continued monitoring and treatment to ensure the cancer does not return is required
