Vacancy: Child Psychiatrist

Location:                Remote working with travel to field locations optional / Based in Countries of Operation (Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Qatar)

The Role

Many of the children we support have endured significant trauma due to conflict, displacement, and instability. We are looking for a qualified Child Psychiatrist to provide guidance to the team around mental health assessments, diagnosis, and treatment for refugee children facing psychological distress and trauma-related disorders.

  • Conduct remote psychiatric evaluations for children and adolescents experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other mental health challenges.

  • Develop personalised treatment plans, including therapy, medication management, and behavioural interventions.

  • Monitor and adjust treatment plans based on the child’s progress and evolving needs.

  • Work closely with parents, guardians, and caregivers to provide guidance on managing children’s mental health needs.

  • Collaborate with social workers, psychologists, and medical teams to ensure a holistic approach to mental health care.

  • Offer training and workshops to caregivers and NGO staff on child mental health, trauma-informed care, and coping strategies.

  • Advocate for accessible mental health care for refugee children in host countries.

  • Provide regular case updates and recommendations.

  • Contribute to impact assessments and program evaluations to improve mental health interventions.

Requirements

  • Medical degree with specialization in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

  • Licensed to practice as a psychiatrist in at least one country.

  • Experience working with children affected by trauma, displacement, or humanitarian crises.

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, PTSD treatment, and culturally sensitive mental health approaches.

  • Ability to provide telehealth psychiatric consultations using secure communication platforms.

  • Understanding of mental health challenges faced by displaced children and their caregivers.

  • Proficiency in Arabic and/or English.

  • Strong organisational skills, a compassionate nature, and a desire to make a difference.
